At South Ascot Village School, our Design and Technology curriculum, delivered through the Kapow Primary scheme, is designed to inspire creativity, curiosity and practical problem-solving. We intend for every child to:
experience a broad and balanced range of creative and practical opportunities to design, make and evaluate purposeful products, taking pride in their achievements
develop the knowledge, understanding and technical skills needed to follow an iterative design process, including researching, planning, making and evaluating
work in a variety of real-life and meaningful contexts such as the home and school, gardens and playgrounds, the local community, industry and the wider environment
develop a love of cooking, gaining confidence in food preparation while applying the principles of nutrition and healthy eating as part of a healthy lifestyle
By following the Kapow Primary curriculum, pupils at South Ascot Village School build progression in skills and knowledge across year groups, becoming creative, resilient and reflective learners who are well prepared for future learning and everyday life.
Design and Technology at South Ascot Village School is delivered through the Kapow Primary scheme of work, ensuring a well-sequenced and progressive curriculum from EYFS to Year 6. Lessons are structured around an iterative design process, allowing pupils to research, design, make and evaluate products in a range of meaningful contexts. Teaching builds on prior knowledge and skills, with opportunities for pupils to apply technical vocabulary, use tools and equipment safely, and develop increasing independence and creativity. Assessment for learning is used to inform teaching and ensure all pupils are supported and challenged to achieve their best.
As a result of the Design and Technology curriculum at South Ascot Village School, pupils develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to design, make and evaluate purposeful products. They are able to apply an iterative design process, use tools and equipment safely, and explain how their ideas have developed and improved. Pupils understand the role of design and technology in everyday life and the wider world, including the importance of nutrition and healthy eating. By the time they leave South Ascot Village School, pupils are creative, resilient and reflective learners who take pride in their work and are well prepared for future learning and real-life problem solving.
