School Council

What is the School Council?

The School Council at South Ascot Village Primary School is a group of pupil representatives who work together to share ideas, discuss issues that matter to our pupils, and help make our school an even better place to learn and grow.

Our School Council gives pupils the opportunity to be heard and provides valuable insight into how pupils experience daily life in school, including learning and socialising.

The School Council at South Ascot Village Primary School is a group of pupil representatives who work together to share ideas, discuss issues that matter to our pupils, and help make our school an even better place to learn and grow.

Who Can Be on the School Council?

Each class elects representatives to join the School Council, ensuring that every voice in our school community can be represented. We believe that every child has the right to contribute to decisions that affect their school life.

What Does the School Council Do?

Our School Council members:

  • Share pupil voice – Represent their classmates' views and ideas
  • Discuss important issues – Talk about topics that matter to pupils, such as:
    • Learning and teaching approaches
    • Playground activities and equipment
    • School clubs and trips
    • Charity fundraising
    • School environment improvements
    • Wellbeing and mental health support
  • Contribute to school decisions – We provide time, space and resources for pupil participation, gathering pupil views through discussions and questionnaires
  • Lead projects – Take responsibility for initiatives that improve our school community
  • Develop important skills – Build confidence, communication, teamwork, and leadership abilities

How We Make Sure Every Voice Counts

We take steps to ensure all pupils can access and contribute to pupil voice by:

  • Taking children's age, maturity and understanding into account when deciding how to support them in participating
  • Finding ways to involve those who lack confidence, such as organising smaller group discussions
  • Considering different ways to gather pupil viewpoints

Working with our SENCO to ensure pupils with SEND can fully participate

Our Commitment to Pupil Voice

  • We are committed to embedding the ideas and implementing the changes that the School Council agrees, making it truly effective. When our School Council makes suggestions, we listen carefully and take action where possible. We celebrate the achievements and positive changes made through pupil voice in our newsletters, assemblies, and around school.

    School Council Meetings

The School Council meets regularly throughout the school year. All meetings follow our school's policies and procedures on confidentiality, data protection and child protection, and we have an agreed code of conduct for everyone involved.

  • Get Involved
