Intent
At South Ascot Village Primary School, our History curriculum aims to inspire curiosity and fascination about Britain's past and that of the wider world. We intend to equip our pupils aged 5-11 with knowledge and understanding of historical events, people and changes over time, enabling them to ask perceptive questions, think critically, and develop perspective and judgement.
Through our use of Kapow Primary's History scheme, we intend to:
- Develop pupils' chronological understanding, helping them to understand how events, people and changes fit into a broad historical narrative
- Ensure pupils gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain's past and that of the wider world, which helps to stimulate pupils' curiosity to know more about the past
- Teach pupils to understand the methods of historical enquiry, including how evidence is used to make historical claims
- Enable pupils to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, and develop perspective and judgement
- Help pupils understand the complexity of people's lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and the relationships between different groups
- Amplify marginalised voices and bring our local area's history to life, ensuring all pupils see themselves reflected in the curriculum
